Clonmult Martyrs remembered

THE annual commemoration of the Clonmult Boys, held by Republican Sinn Féin, took place on Sunday, February 24 in Midleton, Co Cork.
A colour party was followed by members of Cumann na mBan and a general party. A wreath was laid by Tony Horgan in the churchyard of St John the Baptist church and a decade of the Rosary was recited at the grave of Volunteer Seán Deasy.

A further wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Republican Plot in the Holy Rosary Cemetery where a wreath was laid by Donal Dennehy (great-grandnephew of Volunteer Donal Dennehy) on behalf of Republican Sinn Féin, at the graves of the Clonmult Boys following a decade of the Rosary and a lament by a lone piper.

An oration was delivered by Donal Varian recounting the events that took place at Clonmult on February 20, 1921. The ceremony ended with the playing of Amhráin na bhFiann.
