A LONE MAN sits at a bar staring ahead at nothing and no
one. We see him face on, centre frame.
In his early thirties. His hair is jet black and slicked
back with hair cream. This looks like any bar except for
the dead silence and the splatters on blood on his face.
The man takes a sip of the long neck bottle on the bar.
Beside the bottle is a bloodied pipe about a foot and a
half long.
He continues to stare straight ahead. No emotions on his
face.
SAM (V.O.)
I guess you are wondering how I
got here? For that I will have to
start at the beginning, or at
least a couple of months back. I
will have to be fast, as they
will be coming for me soon.
Sirens in the distance. With low whispers behind the man
sitting at the bar.
Insert:
-Ellie running in the backyard, happy, alive.
-Ellie running to her daddy`s arms. He is swung around.
-Ellie getting in the car, that faithful day. The look of
happiness and excitement, so clear on her face.
-Ellie smiling at Sam while sitting in the passenger's
seat.
SAM (CONT'D)
Jesus, it had been such a
beautiful day. I had taken Ellie
to the park, like we had done a
thousand times before. I remember
how excited she got. She had
picked out her own clothes. The
ones I had bought her for her
sixth birthday. I can remember
thinking how fast she was growing
up and how I wished it would slow
down a little, so I could
appreciate the changes a little
more.
Various flash backs of early that day. ELLIE playing in the
garden and getting into the car to leave. The happiness and
excitement so obvious on her face.
She glows in her white clothes, Sam's memories of her are
almost angelic like.
EXT. PARK - DAY (SAM'S POV)
The park is a hive of activity. People having lunch,
walking hand in hand, playing. All going about their own
lives.
SAM (V.O.) (CONT'D)
I had just turned away for a
minute, maybe less I guess. I'm
not sure. Why I dropped my guard.
I had always been so careful. So
aware of everyone around me.
Judging situations and
characters. But I was hungry.
Thinking of myself.
Sam is standing in front of a hot dog stand. The vendor is
covering an oversized hot dog with various toppings. The
dog barely visible underneath the unhealthy collection.
SAM (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Ellie had been talking about the
carousel she had seen in the
centre of the park. I should have
taken her ...
Sam turns to find Ellie and cannot see her. He turns left,
then right. Spinning around wildly, looking for her face.
The crowd seems thicker then possible. More people than
when he had seen previously. More people then was actually
there. All that matters was one, Ellie.
He starts to look further, beyond his immediate
surroundings. The people having a picnic. The group of kids
playing by the swings.
Insert:
-The hotdog falls to the ground in slow motion and is
trampled below Sam's rapid steps.
He quickly makes his way to carousel. Children are
queueing. Children are riding the carousel. Sam tries
frantically to identify the children on the ride. The rapid
movement of the ride makes it hard to see the faces of the
children. They all look lie Ellie. None of them look like
Ellie.
Ellie is nowhere to be seen.
Rapid shots of peoples faces and different sections of the
park.
SAM (CONT'D)
(starting to PANIC)
Ellie!
Sam starts to move quicker through the busy crowd, almost
pushing people out of his way. Looking for his daughter.
But she is nowhere to be found. He runs to a SECURITY
GUARD. An overweight, middle aged man. Stuffing his face
with an oversized donut.
SAM
Please help me. I can't find my
daughter.
