Updated: 14/10/2006 Ratings 1: avoid -----> 5: Excellent. The Departed : Rating: 5. My prayers are answered. What's that you say? What the hell is he gibbering on about now. Well, a good movie... No a very good movie; at last. Well paced, nicely shot, good story. But the icing on the cake? Great performances from a great cast. Damon and Decaprio in particular shine in this movie. Each playing a different side of the same coin. Dicaprio turns in his finest performance to date, the boy is growing up and filling out. Damon (as always) is excellent, and portrays the journey very well. The basic tone of the film. Bad is easier that good. We see Dicaprio living rough, constantly in danger; trying to be the good cop. Damon on the other hand, lives well, dresses well and rises through the ranks with speed. His secret? He's a dirty cop. Nicholson is also on fine form with other good performances from Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Mark Walberg (although Sheen doesn't get enough screen time). A remake of Hong Kong Movie "internal affairs". But don't let the term remake turn you off. This is more of a complete retelling of the story. This is supposed to be Scorsese's last "gangster movie". If so he has finished on fine form.
