FarCry Instincts (March 06) Xbox 360/PC

Rainbow six 3: Lockdown (Feb 06): PC (out on ps2 etc)

Big news these days are the e3 videos floating around of the XBOX360 and PS3. Most impressive are videos of Ghost recon 3, kill zone 2 etc. Check these out on www.fileplanet.com

(archive)The xbox 360 was finally released. Guess what, yep, the biggest software company in the world with the first to market next gen machine, underestimated demand.

Amazing. I thought there was no way Microsoft could let this happen but they did. Many consumers were left unhappy and empty handed. With very limited stocks coming through (unless you live in japan where only half the units sold).

Now the question on every ones lips: Was the Xbox 360 rushed to maket?

Examine the facts:

1) A percentage of units failed with power supply's overheating crashing machines. This has been listed as 1% of machines. But failures none the less.

2) Not enough to meet supply. Even though THEY NEED to sell as many at this stage to win the battle against Sony and the PS3.

3) Many of the must have launch titles slipped effecting sales: especially in Japan. They really should have had Dead or Alive on the shelves: no matter what. Not to mention Ghost Recon AW

4) No HDdvd drive. I have read all the arguments for and against. But 9gb of storage is no enough through the next couple of years and do you really want to be playing games on several disks. Also rumours that another version of the 360 will be released with hddvd drive seems to back this.

5) Is it really HD. The max resolution is a little low to really call it high def and you can't use it to play hd movies (when they come out) but will be able to do so on you PS3.

6) Release games haven't really lite up the market and are just not next gen enough to make a move to a much more expensive machine. Perfect dark is good, but what else. King kong is bugged, everything else runs just as good of a fairly decent PC config.

7) Why have a world wide launch that will mean you WON'T meet demand? should they not have dominated the USA release and left europe/japan till later (when more machines and titles were available? Or are they just not confident in their machine and are rushing it onto as much of the market as possible? Global releases always make me weary.

Xb360 will be first to market, by almost a year (if not longer). Her is what is looks like. Get your hands on one in Europe: Early December.

Xbox 360 is so hot it even hit the cover of time. See here.

Gates is even quoted as saying: the Xbox 360 is "the hottest product we've ever had "

Xbox 360 is due for release in Europe on 2nd Dec. Already there are talks on the web of shortages - much the same as the American launch. some users have also claimed in having problems with power supplies overheating and units CRASHING.

Microsoft have since been accused of rushing the device to market. To make it in stores for the Christmas/thanks giving rush.

I did manage to get a look at one in action running Call of Duty on a HD television. As to sum up: Amazing. You could not produce similar visuals on a $2,000 PC. Crisp, clear and 60 frames a second. If you can I would suggest going into your local game store for a look at one of these on play. HD gaming, TV and Film is the future and the image is pixel perfect. The power of the machine is really displayed in it's moving images - screen shots don't really do it justice.

To sum up: A triple core processor coupled with power graphics all encased in a truly impressive box and user interface. The must have gadget of the next twelve months.

I was so amazed in fact, I sent Microsoft an email to congratulate the team on an excellent release. they even replied. But not with a sample Xbox 360 (Sob).

Sony PSP:

The PSP is out in Europe. Tipped to be the device to topple the iPOD. Giving mobile gaming, picture, music and movies to its user. Nice, but expensive. The future of mobile (and to my mind all gaming) gaming, start here.

The number of UMD movie disk coming out for the device is staggering.

Sony's PS3:

Not a lot known about the PS3. It will contained the new CELL processor and Blue ray technology Here is an image of it.

PC

Fear is out. The single player demo is out on www.fileplanet.com. Visually impressive.

The most under hyped PC release that is getting the best reviews of Late, is Lionhead's the Movies. A sims/rollercoaster tycoon type game. where you manage a movie studio through several decades of film making. It also comes with a movie making tool that can be used to produce 3d shorts of those short films you always wanted to make, but couldn't afford the actors. More on this at the developers site here.
