Running Scared (2005): Rating:
4.
This movie is one of those rare beasts. Heard very
little about it, but was interested because of Paul Walker being the leading
role. One or two things could have been done a lot better:
- The flashy attempt at Tony Scot(ish) visuals
although stylish and work, began to annoy after a while.
- The violence was perhaps too extreme and not really
needed. Not being a prude, buy the images of bullets hitting flesh and
bodies being thrown around work, but just don't give me detailed close ups
of the damage the bullets do.
- The added story of the child killers will make you
cheer at the outcome of this scene, but felt a little "six sense" in
execution: the added "keep" interest story if the mother poisoning
her own child. Worked again here but felt like it was tacked on to add
more interest during a slow point within the actual story. But to be fair
it did help development the underdeveloped wife character in Running
scared.: But the images flashes on the demon in the glass was crap.
- The John Wayne obsessed character simply doesn't
work. I can see what they were trying to achieve: but a combination of
over acting and poor writing/drawn out scenes, made me cringe.
Strong cast throughout. The child actors are
exceptional and I hope to see them in more. A real surprise movie that I
really enjoyed from start to finish. Rent it, you won't be disappointed.
