War of the Worlds(2005): Rating: 4.

Didn't live up to be the event movie I wished for. But considering the paring of Spielberg and Cruise, would it ever? Well shot (check out the incredible 360 shot of the car driving on the highway - WOW). Lots of 9/11 references make the subject matter seem a real bit more close to home and real. But great DVD rental fodder. Cruise is at his best as the dead beat father just trying to keep his family alive. Only real issue I had with this: "spoiler Alert": Why would the aliens use technology that was so old. Buried beneath the earth for millions of years, waiting for use to develop in arms and abilities. Did they just crave a challenge? If you plan to invade you would surely use your latest and greatest.
