1991

January.

Matt Sorum makes his live debut, in front of 140,000 fans at the "Rock In Rio 2", festival in Brazil. The band play the two nights on an accumulated bill of 260,000.

Axl begins a bitter feud with the press, in making a contract, in which the journalist has to sign before an interview, giving the band approval of the interview, governing where it can be published and sold.

May.

On may 24th Guns kick off their first world tour as headliners. The US leg of the tour sells out despite an economic recession.

Izzy Starts to travel separately from the rest of the band, travelling on his own tour bus.

July.

On July 2nd the band plays Riverport Performance Arts Centre, in St. Louis.

On stage, Axl sees someone in the audience, taking pictures of the band. The security doesn't respond to his request to remove the offender. Axl jumps into the crowd and preceeds to beat on the offender himself. He then promptly gets back up on stage and complains to the security, then leaves the stage. The rest of the band soon follow.

Soon after, a riot ensues in which a majority of the bands equipment is thrashed and dozens of arrests were made.

The band releases "You Could Be Mine". The single is to be the band's biggest UK single and peaks at no. 3.

August.

The Gun's "Get In the Ring Tour" visits Europe for the first time, where they play one month of sold out gigs.

September.

On September 17th Guns release the "Use Your Illusion" albums, which debut at no. 1 and no.2 respectively. Guns N'Roses are the first band to ever do so.

The two albums, 30 songs in all, are produced by Mike Clink and G'N'R and are mixed by Bill Price.

In the UK "Don't Cry" is released and peaks at no.8.

On September 21st, rumours amount to the imminent departure of founding member Izzy Stradlin', as he refuses to take part in the "Don't Cry" video.

October.

Steven Adler launches a lawsuit against the band. The lawsuit is in connection with royalties Adler claimed were owed to him for his work on "Civil War" and other songs. He also claims the band are to blame for his drug addiction!

This leads to a great deal of hostility between band and former drummer.

November.

Izzy Stradlin' retires. His on-tour replacement, is announced as Gilby Clarke, formerly from band Kill For Thrills.

December.

"Live And Let Die" is released as the third single, from the "Illusion" albums. The song gets to no.5 in the UK charts and the video uses footage from their gig in Wembley Stadium , London.

On December 5th the band embark on the second leg of thier US tour, which runs through until February 1st 1992 and includes 25 sold out shows.
