Ireland's Mountains

The mountains of Ireland, though tiny compared to the great ranges of Europe, are majestic and outstandingly beautiful, possessing a remote atmosphere found in few other areas of Europe.
From the easily accessible Dublin Mountains to the high peaks of the West of Ireland where the ranges lie within the ambience of the wild Atlantic Ocean, Ireland has many enjoyable routes to offer both visiting and native hill walkers of all abilities and interests.
Because of their small scale the scenery is always changing as one walks (almost as much as the Irish weather!). Only a few of the mountains reach 1000m, so it is quite easy to reach several summits in a day's walking and return to a good meal and comfortable accommodation.
The hills are largely unfrequented (the Dublin area is a notable exception), so there are few tracks and paths. However, armed with a good guidebook and map walkers can enjoy a freedom and solitude rivalled in few other European locations.
Ireland is a hill walkers' paradise - get there before everyone else does!
