GLENCULLEN TO PRINCE WILLIAM'S SEAT, KNOCKNAGUN

Clear-felled forest forms a not very attractive foreground to pleasant views over Glencullen.

Approach from W: Drive through Rockbrook, turn L at the tee over 1 mile S of the village. pass the layby for the bus terminus on the L about 2.5 miles further on and take the next turn R, Boranaralty Lane. Drive to the nearby bridge around which there is limited parking ( 169205).

Approach from E: Drive W (that is towards the head of the valley) from Glencullen Cross, turning L into Boranaralty Lane after about a mile. Drive to the nearby bridge.

Route: Nearly all of this route follows the present (1997) line of the wicklow Way. Continue onward from the bridge to follow a narrow road steadily uphill SE. At the first gate it narrows to a track and less than 10 mins beyond this, turn R onto another track running steeply uphill to meet a tee. To reach Prince William's Seat turn L into forest, still on a track, and SW on emerging from it. To reach Knocknagun turn R, still on a track, to reach a stream with a rough path running upward along its side. Take this path to reach nearby open ground (168196). Knocknagun lies SW.

Note: The path from Prince William's Seat to Knocknagun is badly eroded. Use this area only when necessary and take great care to minimise further damage.
