Software is the instructions a computer needs to tell it what to do. | Information that is inputted to a computer is stored. The information that is stored is of two kinds: data and instructions. A list of instructions forms a program. There are two main types of programs: application software programs and systems software programs |

Application software | Programs that perform specific tasks such as word processing, accounts or games | |
Systems software | A group of programs that make it easier to use a computer. Systems software provides the machine/user interface such as the GUI with which you are using to interact with this website. |
