Donadea Forest Park has picnic areas and beautiful nature trails, with a variety of wild fowl on the lake. There are ruins of a medieval castle the Aylmer Family Home, which is long associated with the Fitzgeralds of Kildare.

Maynooth College and grounds offer an excellent day out for all visitors. Enjoy the ambience and unique architectural heritage of this historic center of learning. Guided tours will take you to the College Chapel, Stoyte House, Pugin Building and the tranquil Gardens. The history of the College is explained through Exhibitions and the Museum. The Visitors Center has an extensive range of souvenirs you can choose from.
Located near Maynooth College was once the stronghold of 'Silken Thomas'. 'Silken Thomas' was the 10th Earl of Kildare, he was so called from the silken fringes on his soldiers helmets. When he renounced his alligence to the king he retired to his stronghold at Maynooth. When Maynooth Castle was taken by the army the garrison was given the 'Maynooth Pardon', that is, they were executed.
