Outstanding miler Intikhab, one of the best horses of recent seasons not to have won a Gr1, became the first Irish freshman to get a first crop winner when Red Power made a winning debut in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster. The colt cost just €14,000 as a yearling. Intikhab, like Dr Fong, is from the Roberto stallion line. He stands alongside established sires Alhaarth and Marju at Derrinstown Stud in Maynooth, Co Kildare.

Former Gr1 winning miler Dr Fong, standing at Side Hill Stud, became the first freshman of the year to get a winner in Europe. The Paul Cole-trained colt Western Roots, a flashy chestnut who cost 25,000gns as a yearling, made an impressive winning debut over the minimum trip on the dirt at Lingfield.
