SCHOOL AIMS AND OBJECTIVES IN RELATION TO THE USE OF ICT AND SIP

  • to motivate the pupils to learn the French language;

  • to use ICT to introduce the French Language to pupils and to further their understanding of same;

  • to establish links between the participating schools with a view to exchanging and to formulating lesson plans, ideas for class activities, games, etc.;

  • to initiate links with other primary schools nationally and in France (Scaér, Brittany) in order to broaden the language experience for the pupils;

  • to promote an improvement in the knowledge of French Culture through the medium of computers;

  • to enhance the pupils' knowledge and to stimulate the pupils' interest in France;

  • to establish a twinning project with a French Elementary school ;

  • to develop the European dimension of the pupils' education;

  • to identify language software, suitable to the needs of our pupils;

  • to help develop the Information and Communication Technology capability in each child;

  • to ensure, where possible, that pupils capabilities are extended from class to class;

  • to use ICT to further the pupils' understanding of the French Language;

  • to enable children use ICT equipment and software confidently and purposefully, to communicate and to handle information, and to support their problem solving , recording and expressive work.

 

We in Scoil Ghoirt Lomáin, as participants in SIP 21, chose to learn French as our Modern Foreign Language.

Ranganna 1 - 6 are partaking in the project in the following way;

Rang 1 - 4             30 minutes per week.
Rang 5 - 6            45 minutes per week.

The programme is modular in design, each module comprising our four lessons and each has a French theme and an IT dimension.

Classes in the school have been paired with corresponding classes in our French partner school in Scaer and the children will maintain contact with their peers there through the use of e-mail.

We are participating in the Commenius Programme and which will enhance our activities in SIP.

Dissemination  Nights
We  held  a  very  successful  parents  and  community   dissemination  night  in  December.  Those  in  attendance  had  an  opportunity  to  observe  the  children  working  on  the  computers  Samples  of  the  children’s  work  were  also  on  display.
Prior  to   the  Easter  holidays  we  hosted  a  teacher’s  dissemination   night.  Presentations  were  given  on  SIP  and  the  teaching  of  Modern  Foreign  Languages  in  Barefield  N.S.  to  the  teachers  from  the  general  Ennis  area.  They  were  keen  to  hear  how  our  SIP  project  was  being  implemented  in  Barefield.  They  explored  the  children’s  work  displayed  and  enjoyed  some  live  French  music  performed  by  the  children.

Children  participating  in  SIP  21  enjoy  using  interactive  software  to  consolidate  French vocabulary  learned in  class.

A  group  of  children  in  Barefield  N.S.  display  their  work  on  the  school  theme  where  they  developed  a  variety  of  computer  skills - word  processing, e-mailing, databases.They  received  many  compliments  from  their  parents  at  the  Parents Dissemination Night.

Some   of  the  children  from  Barefield  N.S.  were   proud  to  discuss  the  work  involved  in  SIP   21  with  the  teachers  from  the  general   area  at  the  Teachers'  Dissemination Night.
