Group Statement
In an environment in
which the validity of painting is constantly contested, we feel that it
is important to explore what painting means in today's art context. We
intend to showcase our personal explorations of the practice of painting
at the beginning of the 21st century.
Whilst always keeping
a careful eye on the rich tradition that we have inherited, we nevertheless
seek not to be bound by this inheritance. We feel it important to investigate
the establishment of hierarchies; those of subject matter, materials,
presentation, and meaning. Amongst the practices we employ are the integration
of media images, notions of abstract formalism, and an interest in the
materiality of paint itself.
We feel strongly that
the particular visual filters and editing processes that we have individually
imposed onto these concerns create a unique insight into the possibilities
offered through the medium of paint today.
