Killanne is the place where the rebel leader John Kelly was
born, so there was a big contingent present for this commemoration. We marched from
Killanne towards Caim and then turned left for Ballinlug and from there back to Killanne.
In Killanne we turned right and marched to a field beside the graveyard where the remains
of John Kelly are buried. There we waited as some sort of ceremony was performed - I was
too far back to know what was going on. We then marched back to Killanne for the unveiling
of a very unusual monument. This done and the speeches over, we retired to Rackards Pub
and the community hall for some tasty refreshments.
