The unveiling of the plaque in Kilmyshall

This day was very important to me as Kilmyshall is where I went to school and is where my children go to school. It is also the place where my family and I go to mass. We (our Pike group) organised all of this day; including the fundraising. We erected a black marble plaque on the Handball Alley wall which reads.

1798 - 1998
Erected by
Kilmyshall-Bunclody-Kilrush Pike Group
in memory of the people of this area
who died or suffered during 1798 insurrection.

The plaque was unveiled by master Flannery who also sang a very old '98 song. He is 86 years old and has been in Kilmyshall over 40 years; having been born in Mayo. We afterwards had tea and sandwiches in Redmonds pub in Bunclody. We were entertained there by our very own Pikeman cum Bard Andy Doyle who through a recitation recounted our activities throughout the year. We also had a slide show by another of our members Shay Doyle. The group then presented me with a beautiful bronze Pikeman in appreciation for leading them most of the year. We then drank and chatted for a few hours before going home. A very enjoyable day.
