This day was the last official Comoradh 98 day. There was a
ceremony in Wexford town earlier to which some people had called for a boycott. Our group
did not attend nor did we boycott it. Our only reason for not attending was because of the
difficulty it would have caused to try and attend both ceremonies. In the end we opted for
what we considered the more important one in Enniscorthy.
There was a good turnout and the day was fine but dull. We departed the Vocational college
at 14.30 hrs and marched to the market square. We assembled around the square. Then a
wreath was laid and the Last Post sounded; then the flag was hoisted to full mast and The
Reveille sounded. There were then some speeches and in the end the National Anthem was
played by the Ballindaggin Pipe Band, who had led the parade. We then returned to out
starting point for some refreshments. I did not stay for these as it appeared that there
were to be some more speeches before we were to receive any teas. Instead myself and
family went to Murphy/Floods Hotel for some refreshments of our own choosing.
Well that's the end of all the marching then and even though I am worn out with it all I
know I will miss all the friends I have made throughout the year. Good bye Pike-people and
congratulations on a job well done. |
