This was the very last event we attended. It was delayed until June 1999 because of uncompleted construction work on a huge grass-covered concrete mound. The mound has an Irish name that means "mound of light". It is situated on Oulart Hill with panoramic views in all directions and is well worth a visit.
The monument was opened by Minister for Finance, Mr Charlie McCreevy TD. There was a huge turnout of Pike-people and we were looked after very well afterwards. A lot of people stayed around for the street music and the ubiquitous beer afterwards,as it was a lovely sunny evening.
