Dublin triumphed in thriller
Dublin 11 Tyrone 8
Dublin got off to a flying start in their first round game in the U-10 Town School Gaelic League when overcoming a gallant Tyrone side managed by Peter Cremer. Dublin scored some excellent scores with Niall Kelly, Aoife Darcy, Alan Gregg and Matthew Valentine playing some outstanding football. For Tyrone Philip McKeon, Willie Stokes and Own Mahon had good outings. Final score read Dublin 11 Tyrone 8 and a winning start for Eddie Valentine’s charges.
 
Winning start for Galway
Galway 12 Armagh 6
In this Group 2 clash, Galway got off to a winning start when finishing on top against Armagh with Brian Rooney, Simon Jordan and Jamie McOda having good games for the winners. Armagh battled hard with Daniel Daly, Jason Wykes and Michael Griffith playing well in what was a very entertaining encounter. Final score read Galway 12 Armagh 6.
 
Roscommon overcome Westmeath
Roscommon 10 Westmeath 5
Bernard Duffy’s Roscommon got their league off to a winning start also when triumphing against a gallant Westmeath side with Adrian Duffy scoring some lovely scores and Bernard Reilly and John Farrell also contributing to this victory. Best for Westmeath was Conor Lawlor, Michael Doyle and Noel Murphy. Final score read Roscommon 10 Westmeath 5.
 
Longford prove too strong
Longford 16 Kerry 8
In the big game of the evening, Gerry Clarke’s charges (Longford) had a 16 to 8 victory over an under strength Kerry outfit. Best for Longford was Conor Clarke and younger brother Robert who scored the score of the evening. James Campbell and Conor Lane were on form for Kerry. Final score read Longford 16 Kerry 8.
 
Round 3 games this Thursday
This Thursday round three games will be played with Dublin playing Westmeath in Group 1 at 7pm and Galway playing Kerry in Group 2. At 7.45pm Cork play Tyrone in Group 1 and Mayo play Armagh in Group 2. Well done to all the people and parents that helped out with the teams on the opening nigh and made it such a huge success. And also to Colin Smith and Cathal Cremer for refereeing the games and members of the Longford Slashers U-16 team who acted as umpires and linesmen.

Leinster JFC 'A' Final

Longford side St Mel's, winners of the Leinster junior title in 2000 and 2001, regained the Under 16 provincial crown when they overcame Dublin opponents St Aidan's in yesterday's final at Cusack Park in Mullingar.

Coached by Leitrim senior team manager Declan Rowley, St Mel's were the better side and secured victory with goals from Longford Slashers clubmen David Sheahan and David Sexton.

The Longford side hit the woodwork twice in the first half, but still led led by 1-7 to 1-2 at the break, with the goal coming from Sheahan in the 18th minute. Aidan's had the benefit of the wind in the second half, but conceded a soft goal after just five minutes when Sexton pounced on a mistake by 'keeper Shane Byrne.

A goal by David Ryan helped Aidan's close the gap to 2-8 to 2-5 after 45 minutes, but the Dubs failed to score again. With David Keenan outstanding up front, Mel's consolidated their grip on the game with points from Denis McGoldrick and Mark Smith.

St. Mel’s Super Sevens football final
Team Six . . . 7-8 Team One . . . 4-5
The Super Sevens football final between Team 1 and Team 6 was held on Wednesday of last week in St. Mel’s, College with Team 6 coming out on top after a cracking encounter with Ronan McGoldrick, Robert Kennedy and Thomas Kelly staring for the winners when playing some excellent football.
 
Best for the gallant losers was Bryan Kavanagh, Mark Dowler and Shane Kelly with all three players battling hard throughout. Final score after a pulsating game read Team 6 7-8 Team 1 4-5.  The winning team was managed by David Faughnan and Paddy Corcoran with Ross Flaherty and Eddie Conboy in charge of the runners up. All games were refereed by Michael Morrissey.

All Camps are four days long and include both hurling and football activities.

Each participant will receive the following items: Playstation Leinster G.A.A. Summer Camp kit including jersey, shorts and socks and Sports bag.
Each Hurling Camp participant will also receive a Summer Camp Sliotar.

Mighty Melview triumph in ‘A’ decider
Melview 8 Abbeylara ‘A’ 3
In the Group 1 hurling final last year’s runners up Melview were crowned champions when overcoming Abbeylara ‘A’ in a cracking conclusion to the day’s activities with Melview finishing strong on a score-line of 8 goals to 3 with Padraig O’Reilly having a good game for the eventual winners when winning the Player-of-the-Match award. In goals Daniel Phillips was outstanding with Mark Valentine very strong in the defence when clearing a number of near goal chances for the Abbeylara ‘A’ boys. Upfront David Mimnagh and Franklin O’Reilly blasted home a brace of excellent goals between them. Best for the unlucky losers was Sean Berry and Patrick Cremer. 
 
Melview coaching certificates presentation
For the past six weeks, a group of over 30 boys and girls from Melview National School have been attending Gaelic football coaching sessions organised by Carmel Browne. The children were all U-10 and have displayed great commitment. They have been developing skills in all areas of Gaelic football including; soloing, catching and kicking, hand/foot passing and scoring, as well as playing 5-a-side mini games. On Thursday of last week all the participants received certificates from schools coach Mary Burke. Many of the children will be participating in the upcoming Longford Slashers U-10 Town School League later this month. Well done to all involved.
