A fuchsia plant |
The plant shown here is a fuchsia. Most of the bark near the roots is brown and it peels away like paper. The bark on the new growth is red. The little flower we see open is like a fairy dancer with a red frock and purple skirt. Each day bees visit the fuchsia flower to collect nectar. The nectar is located inside the flower near the top. As the bee is collecting the nectar, some pollen drops on to the hairs on its body, and some from the other flowers it visited drops off. So the bee is like a postman, collecting and delivering mail! If you open the flower you can taste the nectar. It is very sweet. Bees make honey from it. All the flowers don't open together in case there were no bees around at that time due to bad weather or some other reason. All fruit-trees do the same. |
