The Eircom 40x20 Finals took place in Clarecastle
on November 14th. With 24 Players lining out in 2 Divisions for Cup &
Plate a great days Handball followed. The Draw for Partners and Division
seedings got the day off to a lively start . With the Courts in great order
and Noreen & “Pudden” looking after refreshments the draws were made
and the games Commenced. In Division 1 after some very controversial refereeing
Pat Donnellan & Jimmy Heffernan got over the first round beating Paddy
Collins & Liam Bourke 15/14, 11/15, 11/9 .Seamus Buggy took over refereeing
duties and Fergal Ryan & Seamus Hughs beat Aiden Bell & Jimmy Sheridan
15/13, 15,9. Eamon Conneely & Peter Mulryan Beat Paddy Buckley &
Denis Phelan 15/7, 15/5. The Three Winners went forward to the Semi Final
and a round Robin of the Losers to make up the 4th Semi Finalist. Collins
& Burke Beat Buckley & Phelan 21/21/15, and Bell & Sheridan
21/4. In the Semi Finals Fergal Ryan & Seamus Hughs Beat Collins &
Burke 15/6, 15/6. In the other Semi-Final Conneely & Mulryan Beat Donnellan
& Heffernan 15/12, 5/15, 11/2

At the Reception Dinner The Trophies were
presented by Chairman Micky Coyne & Secretary Paddy Collins. They Thanked
the Main SponsorsFergus Casey & Eircom Credit Union& Pat
O Toole Eircom General Manager and also Castlebar Social Club &
Claremorris Social Club. They thanked Chris Curran for the support of GAA
handball , Clarecastle for the facilities & The Old Ground Hotel and
Staff for looking after everybody so well. A Presentation was made to Noreen
Donnellan for looking after all the players with refreshments throughout
the day and a generous contribution to Seamus Buggy to aid the Development
of the Wexford Building project.
