GAA Handball 2011 Juvenile Boys 60x30 Team Finals – Thurles – Report and Photos courtesy Paddy Collins in Thurles

It was great to see 60x30 Juvenile Handball alive and well in both Tipperary & Kilkenny. There was some great displays of Handball in Thurles in all age groups with Tipperary taking 2 Team titles and Kilkenny taking one.

In the U12/13 Team Tipperary’s Jason English & James Prentice were up against Shane Dunne & Dean Farrell from Kilkenny. Tipp won the first game 15-9 but Kilkenny took the second 15-3 giving Kilkenny a lead of 6 aces. Colin Ryan & Jerome Cahill were next in for Tipp against Kilkenny’s Dion Bourke & Ciaran Cooney. Tipp dominated this doubles winning 15-0, 15-8giving Tipp a 16 ace lead into the final set. Aiden O Flaherty & Kevin Shinnors from Tipp were up against Roy Cullen & Conor Condon from Kilkenny. The Kilkenny boys put in a great display winning 15-8, 15-10 but the Tipp Boys made the vital aces to pull the team through to win overall 66-62 in a very tight finish.

In the U14/15 Team J.J. English & Padraig Cooney got Kilkenny off to a great start against Tipps Mikey Maher & Johathon Walsh winning 15-0, 15-8 giving them a 22 ace lead. In the second set Josh Moroney & Ronan Bourke pulled back aces for Tipp with a 12-15, 15-1 win over Kilkenny’s Conor Lyons & Adam Cliffordand now the lead was down to 11 aces. In the final set Tipp pair Kieran Casey & Liam Bradshaw won the first 15/9and in the final game with Tipp leading 11-0 it looked all over but Kilkenny’s Paul Clifford & Dylan Caulfield staged a late comeback and with some powerful serving overtook the Tipp boys to win 15/11 and take the Team to a 70-61 Victory.

In the U16/17 TeamStephen Moroney & Jack Jones got Tipp off to a great startwinningthe first 15-0. Kilkenny’s Stephen O Dwyer & Fergal Lawlor settled down in the second and won 15-11. In the second set Tipps Jason Cahill & Gerry Foley were up against Kilkenny’s Eoin Doyle & Ronan Egan. Tipp won this game 15-7 to put the game out of the reach of the Kilkenny boys with a lead of 19 aces going into the last game to 15.
