"...the illdependents are very possibly the future sound of this darn country"

Jim Carroll. Muse 1999

"Gifted Irish producer.....his two EPs.....among the best Irish records of recent years.....of any genre...."

Sunday Times - January 2000

Hazo, the DJ and producer who operates as the Illdependents has released three critically acclaimed EPs. The first emerged on UK label Ultimate Dilemma in 1998 and received widespread media attention, the Event Guide called it " [the]record that's been waiting to happen in Ireland......five tracks of greatness". A track off the EP made its way onto Compost Records' "Future Sound Of Jazz Vol.5" collection. A year later he followed up with another EP which confirmed his reputation as Irelands premier producer of beats. Tracks from this EP once again were picked for inclusion on the influential "Future Sound Of Jazz Vol.7" and some other smaller compilations at the time.

"He's come up with a wonderfully cool and jazzy downbeat sound with great production and some nice little grooves running through...........Hazo doesn’t seem to be trying to follow any kind of trend....... definitely a new talent".

DJ Magazine- March 1998

His first two EPs appeared in UK club charts at the time and received heavy radio airplay from Giles Peterson on BBC Radio One to college radio stations across North America. Here in Ireland tracks from both EPs have become firm favourites on both Donal Dineen’s Here Comes the Night show and on An Taobh Tuathail’ on R na G. Hazo’s tracks have also been included on an RTE documentary on the World Poker championship and feature as the theme tune to Rianta Ireland’s only TV video show dedicated exclusively to electronic music.

His third EP appeared on Irelands dedicated hip hop label, All City Records last April. Fusing beats from the grooves of funk and soul records with Irish spoken word and rap, this EP is about communicating a sense of time and place. On the two tracks "Trippin Thru Me Dreams" B/W "Born Rebel" Captain Moonlight and Hazo represents their home turf to the fullest, while being relevant and interesting to the rest of the planet. Captain Moonlight is an emcee who eschews the tedious bragging and boasting of some of the new emcees, content to let those who appreciate craft and artistry on the mic come and find it. An emcee of principle, his stream of consciousness raps, have their roots in the tradition of Irish storytelling from the seanachai to James Joyce. Hailing from Kilkenny, Moonlight wears his country roots proudly on his sleeve on this 12" as he and Hazo bring you on two dense beat fuelled journeys with the spirits of David Axelrod, DJ Shadow and Luke Kelly for company.

"Hazo, a DJ with a cutting edge and a mind full of ideas.....divine..."

dSIDE - 1998

Wearing his DJ hat Hazo is equally renowned if not as prolific. He has played in the famous Club Apollo in Barcelona and in Ireland headlined at the Southern Soul and Disco festival, 1998. He has also played guest slots at some of Ireland’s most respected clubs from the POD (Dublin) to Sir Henrys (Cork). His sets take in a wide range of Black music from Reggae to hip-hop to soul and jazz; a joy for the discerning listener, while funky enough for any dancefloor.
