Killian was a resident with the now defunct dee-bop. Currently a student at University of Limerick, he
co-presents a radio show on Wired FM (local community license station) 'Beats and rhymes'
Wednesday 9-10. You will be seeing more of Killian at venues around Limerick in the next
few months.
Interview with Killian:
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Tramore,
Co.Waterford.
When did you get into hip-hop?
I got into hip-hop thanks to House of Pain,
couldn't resist the irish connection and the 'Harlem Shuffle' sample. From there, got into
Beastie boys, Cypress Hill and Public
Enemy.
Got into dance music after going to Feile '95 in Cork and since then cork has had a
influence on me. Seeing orbital, the orb, chemical brothers and massive attack at feile
blew me away and turned me over from the grunge and britpop scene. met up with a house DJ
in school in '95 and he gave me my first experience on the decks and also started going to
'flo motion' in waterford which was run by paul flynn.
What records were you buying back
then?
Well I started to buy Mo' Wax releases, first buy was rob d.'s 'Clubbed to Death #2'.
December 8th 1995 was the first time I heard DJ Shadow's 'What does your soul look like?' and I haven't looked back
since, he is god!
First went to Sir Henry's in Cork over the jazz weekend in 96 but didn't get to see Stevie
G until that Christmas. Since then I suppose he has an influence over what I buy and what
I listen to when it comes to hip-hop
