Patrick Gunning Memorial Match

The annual Patrick Gunning Memorial match, which had to be postponed at Christmas due to snow, was played on Saturday week last January 20th. Despite the cold and it been the day after the dinner dance, thirty seven players lined out for this novelty match in memory of the late Patrick Gunning. As last year the game was between the older (the veterans) and the younger members (the novices) within the club. Last year the veterans were victorious and the general feeling was that this year the novices backboned by the bulk of the intermediate championship team would have revenge. However the veterans intent on not relinquishing their title that easily pressed the Gavin brothers, Kevin and Colm and Ollie Gallagher back into training and, added to the bulk of last years panel, once again prevailed in a very intense tough encounter. The teams were as follows Veterans : Ollie Gallagher, Padraig Gavin, Tommy Colgan, Aidan Gavin, Joe Quinn, Tony Brady, Eamon Gallagher, Ger Gill, Liam Maher, Kevin Gavin, Aidan Nolan, Nollaig McEntegart, Jimmy Gallagher, Sean Gallagher, Jay Faulkner, Vinny Bagnall, Ollie Egan, Colm Gavin and Andy Dolan. Novices: Declan Hogan, Damien Gallagher, Noel Gavin, Liam Casey, Philip Sheridan, Mick Carley, Ken Gunning, Pat Hayes, Kevin Connell, Enda Carey, Damien Gavin, John Maloney, Jonathan Sheridan, Niall Seery, Paul Brady, Peter Cunniffe, Adrian Gallagher and Paddy Kiernan. The man with the unenviable task of keeping law and order on the aforementioned was Owen Loran.
