Venue:                         Cloone

Report:

Two late goals sealed victory for Carrigallen following a very competitive and entertaining Junior Championship first round.

The teams were tied on numerous occasions throughout the game but Carrigallen had the better side of luck with two fortuitous goals, which both came at crucial times, one on 10 minutes before the interval, the other 3 minutes after resumption of the second half.

Carrigallen had the better start with two points before Fenagh St. Caillins responded with 3 points from Kevin Doonan, Enda Egan and Doonan again. Fenagh St. Caillins were dealt a cruel blow when a high Carrigallen free dropped over the head of Brendan Curran and in for a goal. Fenagh responded immediately with a point from Paul Connefrey followed by one from Kenneth Kilkenny to leave the half-time score level at 0-5 to 1-2.

Carrigallen regained the lead with a point from a free and then extended their lead to four points when they scored a replica goal of their first one. Fenagh dominated the next 10 minutes and fought very hard to bring the scores level once again through a Doonan point a goal by Sean Logan. Carrigallen responded with three quick points to leave them ahead once again but their lead was cut back to two points when Logan pointed. Carrigallen responded with a point to leave three between the teams but the game was levelled once again when Tommie Ellis was quickest to respond to a ball coming off the upright as he buried it into the Carrigallen net.

With three minutes remaining it was anyone's game, however Carrigallens' greater fitness snatched it for them as they scored two late goals and so defeating a gallant but tired Fenagh St. Caillins side.
