Although participating in the U-12 competition since its beginning in 1971, little progress was made with only solitary wins in 1971 and '72.
1973 was to prove an entirely different affair. First, the approach changed. It wasn't enough now to just produce a team for the first game and hope for the best. Tommy McLoughlin, P.J. Hargadon, and Hugh Maguire arranged that Richard Ellis (Fenagh Beg) train the team. Several challenge matches were played against Bornacoola and Allen Gaels. Qualifying from their group they had an easy 6-04 to 1-04 win over Aughawillan in the semi-final.

The final against Drumahaire, as a game proved to be an anti climax as Fenagh were just in a different class with an 8-04 to 0-04 victory telling it's own tale. The one-sided nature of the game certainly didn't tarnish the celebrations.

With seven of the team again eligible in 1974, much was expected. A defeat in the first round by Carrigallen brought the team back to earth. The quality was there and helped by an Aughawillan win over Carrigallen they were back in the race. The final of the group was against Aughawillan and was played on a rain soaked Ballinamore pitch, a fact which reflected on the scoreline of 1-03 to nil in Fenagh's favour.

The final against Gortletteragh was fixed for Drumshanbo. Gortletteragh refused to travel, the referee threw in the ball and Fenagh scored the ceremonial winning goal. Very sportingly, the club refused to take the title without a game and agreed to play the final in Carrick. Gortletteragh had an early goal but with Donie and T.P. McLoughlin dominating midfield, Fenagh took over and the game was as good as over at half-time with Fenagh leading 3-09 to 1-0. However, Gortletteragh now aided by the breeze fought gamely and contributed to memorable and high scoring final. Fenagh 6-13, Gortletteragh 4-3.

1975 saw the club complete a memorable hatrick of wins at this level. Qualifying easily from the earlier rounds, they overcame Carrigallen in an evenly contested Divisional final with Seamus Ellis being given the task of 'minding' Carrigallen's tall midfielder, Packie Smith.
The final was against Drumahaire. Playing brilliantly against the breeze in the first half they forced the dominant Drumahaire team into errors and in fact led 2-0 to 1-2 at the interval. At this stage it was as good as over with John Doherty, T.P. McLoughlin and Sean Logan in brilliant form, scored 4-3 without reply to leave the final score Fenagh 6-3, Drumahaire 1-2.

History

Three of the team, John Doherty, T.P. McLoughlin and Sean Logan created their own bit of history by playing in the three finals. A fourth member of the panel, Gerard Kilkenny was a substitute for the first two finals.
