MATCH REPORT

The final was a disappointing affair, with Ronan's team emerging easy winners after Shane's team faded badly. The star of the show was young Paul Mc Ginley, 1st year, who helped himself to 3 goals. The other scorers were Emmet Quigley and, "Captain Fantastic" himself, Ronan Reynolds. Ronan was on the winning team in 1999 an dis hoping to make it a hat-trick of victories in 2001.

Shane Mc Whinney, replacing the impressive Gerard Mc Hugh, was an able deputy in goals for the winning team.

A special word of thanks to Mr Rodgers, who was referee for all the matches and did a fine job.

U 16

Both U 16 and senior basketball teams were in action recently, taking on Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town. Abbey played very consistently throughout the entire game. A very good team effort saw them victorious. Except for their shooting, which is at times irrational and rushed, they have the makings of a great team.

Killybegs on the other hand were having a very, very bad day. The girls did not settle into their game until the middle of the 3rd quarter. Their basic training was not followed at all, their lay-ups were disastrous and shooting at times was very bad. Their defence was the only element which kept them going until they woke up in the 3rd quarter. Michelle Cunningham's persistence with the ball and Kelly Johnson's accurate shooting narrowed the deficit. Overall it was an enjoyable match.

Basketball

Indoor Soccer

Right from the start of this game Killybegs' enthusiasm was noticed. There were great scores from Charlene Smith and a 3-pointer from Tara Mc Ginley, but the outstanding player in the 1st and 2nd quarters was Aine Mc Nelis, whose defensive skills were wondrous, scoring accurate and speed up and down the court exceptional. There were some other players of note Nicola Harvey and Jamie Mc Gowan. The Killybegs' zone defense was unbreakable. Charlene Smith played the best defensive game of her life, while her offensive expertise was a big threat to the beleaguered Abbey team. It was the defense that eventually won the game for Killybegs. Abbey seemed to give up the game in the 2nd quarter but forced a comeback late in the 3rd quarter when Killybegs had eased off a little.
