Our school was awarded with the prestigious European Green school flag by Minister Michael Woods. On the 25th of June 2001 Minister Eoin Ryan presented the flag at a ceremony in the school. We have worked hard with enthusiasm and commitment to keep the green flag.

The Green schools Project

Green schools is a European wide environmental education programme .It aims to promote and acknowledge whole school action for the environment. An Taisce has operated Green School in Ireland for four years. Green school is run in partnership with the local authorities and is sponsored by Coca Cola.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN                                                                                                                                                      

Put all litter in the bin        

We shred and recycle office paper

We created a pond

We recycle aluminum cans

We eliminate plastic bags from the school                  

Use the recycling bank for newspaper 

We grew a wild garden                               

                                             

The senior patio was planted   

We planted a sensory bed                                

We put all live matter into a compost

           heap.   

            We recycle batteries and plastic rings

            We conserve energy 

 

Our Targets

We have reduced waste by 50%. This year 2003 the focus is on conserving energy. We also hope to plant a vegetable garden.

Initiatives to develop environmental awareness in St. Clare's School

We won  an  ESB Primary School Environmental Awards. The Green School is made up of children from 4th class to 6th, parents and teachers. Our school successfully took part in the walk to school week. This was a healthy alternative to the car. All pupils who walked were presented with a certificate.
