5th and 6th class have been learning German since 1998. In April 2002, St. Clare’s was invited to take part in the Schultute project. This September we had a special ceremony. Ms. Ursula Krehen from the Goethe Institute attended. We sang ‘Guten Morgen’ and ‘Ich bin ein Schulkind’. As part of the project we learned about the customs in Germany & Austria, new vocabulary, German songs, designed and made a small "schultute".6th class made cones and filled them with sweets for the children in 5th class.
BACKGROUND
Schultuten are cones filled with sweets given to primary school children on their first day of school in Germany. We imitate the custom in St. Clare’s School when 6th class welcome 5th class to learning German by giving then Schultuten.
