Situated on a five
acre campus in the heart of Douglas, our school has been a centre for learning
for over 100 years. Our most important rescource, our staff of 33 teachers, are
dedicated to children's learning and welfare. In addition, we also have classroom
assistants, administrative and maintenance staff.
The school is divided into 2
buildings - a Junior and a Senior school. This allows infants to enjoy a less
formal introduction to the educational system.
We recently
amalgamated with Our Lady's School for the Hearing Impaired and are dedicated
to the advancement of deaf education.
We follow the
bilingual educational philosophy giving equal recognition to sign language and
English and, as a result, all our children, both hearing and deaf, are learning
sign language. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences for all
concerned.
We support Munster
Rugby!
The main
subjects in our school are:
Irish, English, Sign Language, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Visual Arts,
Music, Drama, PE, Social, Personal and Health Education and IT Skills.
We take a holistic
approach to the development of children and encourage a positive, pro-active,
self-motivating approach to learning. We see learning as a lifelong process and
encourage a sense of wonder, curiosity and joy in achievement. Our school
emphasises and encourages the individuality of each child, including children
with special educational needs.
