Since the beginning of October 2006 we’ve had
on-going drumming workshops taking place in the school. Each fifth and sixth class has an hour-long
session every week. Raj, their tutor, has an array of drums and other
percussion instruments and each student has their own instrument. The West
African drum, or djembe, is the main instrument used. Through the drumming the children learn simple rhythms and sounds. They also learn to listen and focus. It awakens their creative side, sense of timing and leaves them feeling more relaxed and receptive. |
