The Lost Puppy, by Patrick, Third Class

Once there lived a happy family with a happy dog. His name was Buster. He was really happy with what he had but as he grew older and bigger the family could not keep him. One day he crept into the kitchen and heard Mammy say "We can't keep him any more." Daddy said "ok, tomorrow we will leave him off in the hill." Buster knew something was wrong. So he went off to the hill. He was dropped off there, it was dark and scary. He was in the middle of the road. Suddenly a car hit him. He was wounded and his leg was bleeding. There he was out in the middle of nowhere, he was hurt, and he was hungry, cold and tired. He heard footsteps, a little boy was wheeling his bike. He saw the puppy. He knew at once that this was a sheepdog, so he took him home. He fell asleep. When he woke up he found himself in a huge farm. A big man with a stick and a very, very old dog. He said "hello! How are you!" and he patted him on the head. He said, "come on, let's go farming". So he went with the big man and saw a field full of sheep. He could not wait until he was rounding up the sheep. It sounded like great fun but he was on a rope. The big man said, "you watch and learn". So he watched the sheep run and jump. The big man said "oh no!", the sheep were breaking out of the fence. Buster ran after the sheep he got them wherever he told him. He was in a house with a cat, a dog and a tiny mouse. He liked it as long as he was fed. His cut soon healed up and before he knew it he was living a new life with a new family on a big farm with a new dog and loads of friends in a little house.
