Open Day 2009
Friarstown Allotments Site
On 25th July 2009 we had our annual Open Day. It was a great success, with over 500 people attending, and probably the best weather of the whole summer. The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Mick Duff, launched the day and Ms. Rosaleen O’Dwyer, Heritage Officer with South Dublin County Council, gave a presentation on allotment gardening and biodiversity. Visitors came from as far away as Athlone and Carrickfergus and the event was free and open to all. There were guided tours of the plots and a wide range of information available, as well as 'living experts' on hand to offer advice on growing vegetables.
South Dublin Allotments Association would like to thank South Dublin County Council, An Taisce Green Communities Small Grants Scheme, all the volunteers, allotment holders, the Vegetable Competition Judges, Newlands Garden Centre, Tallaght News and many others who contributed in various ways to make the day a resounding success.
