Green schools Day of Action.
Pupils from 6th and 5th

from waste that they recycled. The theme for the parade was world cup 2002
on the day they walked the whole length of the town and performed in front
of the reviewing stand in the square 4th class joined them with
signs and slogans about recycling litter and the environment it was a huge
success!!! Our school won a prize for creativity. Girls who took part in the
parade described their costumes below.
Footballers Costume
We collected old milk cartons. We cut them
up the side flattened them out and washed them. We cut out shapes and sowed
them onto a T-shirt.We made a ball from papier-mâché we painted it white.
We painted on black 50p shapes to make it look like a real football. We moulded
newspaper in to the shape of a cup and used toilet roll inserts for the stem.
We made a banner that said Laois footballers 2002.We enjoyed doing our project.

Hawker Costume
I got old flyers from the world cup and stuck
them on to an old box to make it look like a hawker’s tray. I got toothpicks
and I put straws over then I inserted into the box. I then drew flags of the
participating countries and stuck them on some straws. I also got an old straw
hat and stuck shamrocks on it. I was posing as a hawker selling flags and
brochures for the upcoming world cup

Ireland fan
I used a plastic bag to make my dress. The
best thing about my costume was my enormous hat. Which I made out of cardboard
boxes. I covered the boxes in old crepe paper. I decorated it with egg cartons
and ripped up wool. My aunty crocheted a bag for me. We strung old plastic
bags together to make a ball of yarn Ms. Mc Crohan the environmental co-ordinator
at our school said ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’
