School Policies
Admissions:
Referrals are invited by the school principal
from the following:
- Psychologists attached to the Woodlands
Development Centre, Renmore.
- Psychology department of the Galway County
Association for Mentally Handicapped Children.
- Psychologists attached to the Western
Health Board at St Annes and Community Care.
Parents may refer their children, but appropriate
reports must be furnished.
An admissions meeting attended by the school manager, principal,
psychologist and liaison social worker is held in May each year.
Criteria for Admission:
- The child is functioning within the moderate
range of learning disability.
- Appropriate reports are made available
- The child is within the catchment area
- Transport is sanctioned by the Department
of Education and Science
Parents and relevant personnel are notified
by the principal re the decision of the admissions board. It is
desirable that parents visit the school prior to the child commencing
at the school. The child's progress is reviewed 3 - 6 months after
admission to assess the suitability of the placement. Thereafter
reviews are held on pupils when deemed necessary (usually every
2 - 3 years). The parents, class teacher, psychologist and other
relevant staff attend these reviews.
