Louth Champions

The indoor hurling finals started with 16 teams. Eight of these teams were from Dundalk, four were from Drogheda and four from Ardee. To get through the Dundalk stage we encountered three teams from the Dundalk area. These teams were St.Malachy’s B Team, Fatima and Redeemer. We beat all of these teams in a first round league. Knockbridge, Termonfeckin and CBS Drogheda also qualified for the Louth indoor hurling final. St.Malachy’s played the first game against Knockbridge and we won after a challenging game. St.Malachy’s now looked to be in the best position after beating the best team in the competition. It was a hard and difficult game but St.Malachy’s came out on top winning 6:2 in the end. The next and more difficult game was against CBS Drogheda but again St.Malachy’s came out on top winning6: 4. St.Malachy’s now looked like they could lift the tittle for the first time in their school's history. After this win St. Malachy’s had already booked a place in the final. St.Malachy’s opponents had not been decided as Termonfeckion and Knockbridge were still in with a chance of making it to the final. Termonfeckion, coming 2nd in the group, had their hardest game last against St.Malachy’s which they lost 6:2. This meant that Knockbridge only needed to win by 4 gaols to get to the final. They won 5 nil over CBS Drogheda. In the final it was the two Dundalk teams. Knockbridge took a quick 2 nil lead but St.Malachy’s quickly regained the lead and won the final 9:3 and won their first Louth hurling trophy.
