Many old musicians believed that it was the supernatural faeries who
first made instruments and composed tunes. All over Ireland there are
tunes named in honour of the faeries, especially in Donegal.
These tunes tend to be bouncy and lively like little people skipping around.
Here is a hornpipe(a type of dance) called King of the Faeries.
And another called The Faerie's Hornpipe.
And one calledThe Fairy Dance
A famous poem called
"The Fairies" was written by a Donegal man called
William Allingham around 150 years ago.
