Welcome to the Juvenile section of St. Mary's GAA Club Athenry. There
are only two national competitions in under-age hurling open to all GAA
Clubs in the Country - Féile na nGael and the Community Games.
Under-age games have a character and intensity all of their own and when
two particulary talented teams face each other in the final of these competitions
the outcome is likely to be something very special. Athenry has a particulary
good record in both competitions and these competitions have proven to
be prosperous breeding grounds for great players of the future.
In September 1982 Athenry
won the Community Games All-Ireland Hurling Final in Mosney, county Louth,
and most of this team
now form the backbone of the current senior team which won the All-Ireland
Club Huling Championship in 1997, 2000 and 2001.
As St. Mary's GAA Club Athenry grew in popularity it was decided that
a juvenile committee would be formed to look after the running of the
club in both hurling and football from beginners up to the under-16 age
group. At this point I would also like to take this opportunity to thank
my fellow Club na nÓg officers, team managers and selectors, and
everybody who has helped to make this club as strong as it is.
I hope you enjoy
looking through our web site and we look forward to keeping you up to
date as all the competitions and events occur.
