Round 1

ST MICHAELS/FOILMORE     2-10                                Sneem    1-11

St. Michael's/Foilmore, playing into the , took the game to Sneem from the start and were totally on top in the first quarter. Ronan O' Conner had a good shot saved by goalkeeper Drummond and slack marking allowed Johnny Keating in for a goal all within three minutes. Ronan O'Connor and O'Sullivan then added two points. But in the meantime Sneem had to replace goalkeeper Mark Drummond who went off injured. Ronan Hussey pointed a free for Sneem but at the other end O'Connor pointed a free after Johnny Clifford was fouled. The second quarter saw Sneem come more into the game they had points from Sean Hussey, Don Riney, J D O'Sullivan and Ronan Hussey pointed a free before Ronan O'Connor put St.Michaels/Foilmore two points ahead after a pointed free. 1-04 to 0-05. That lead though was eroded as two silly fouls in front of the goal by the St.Michaels/Foilmore backs allowed Ronan Hussey to level the game at the break 1-04 to 0-07.

On the restart it was touch and go with both teams having there chances. Sneem took the lead through Ronan Hussey but the other Ronan St.Michaels/Foilmore's O'Connor levelled the score. Ronan O'Connor then put his side into the lead with Full-Back Brendan Teehan crept up to finish a good Sneem movement to level the score after 12 minutes into the second half. At this stage the game was fairly balanced and either team looked capable of winning. A Potent move by Sneem saw the ball cross the field for Sean Hussey to put them in front but points from O'Connor and O'Shea catapulted St.Michaels/Foilmore back in front 1-08 to 0-10. With four minutes left a long ball in over the St.Michaels/Foilmore defence left Len Burns in for a goal and he made no mistake to give his side a two point lead. 1-11 to 1-09. But the drama didn't end there as Kieran Cronin pulled a point back for St.Michaels/Foilmore and then in the last play of the game a high ball in was caught by sub-goalkeeper Barry Clifford. Dramatically he was adjudged to have carried the ball behind the line and a goal was awarded to St.Michaels/Foilmore which left the final score 2-10 to 1-11.

Semi-Final

ST MICHAELS/FOILMORE     0-12             Waterville   1-7

On Sunday 16th Nov at Con Keating Park, conditions were good for the time of year. Within the first minute Waterville were off the mark with a quick point from play by wing back O' Shea.  Three minutes later Waterville were awarded a free after a foul and  John D. O' Shea kicked his first and only score of the afternoon.  St Michaels/Foilmore opened their account in the ninth minute with a great sideline kick by Sean Fogarty which floated over the bar.  Waterville replied in the best possible fashion by gaining possession and setting up Mike Curran who rattled the net.  From the kick out St. Michaels got possession and in the 13th minute they scored their first and only point from play in the first half. They followed with two points via frees from Ronan O'Connor which brought the scores to a drawAlan O'Shea then added his first score of the game. K Moran scored in the 22nd minute and S O' Sullivan had one in the 23rd minute to give them a cushion of four points. St. Michaels/Foilmore converted another free with just two minutes left in the half but Keith Moran notched his second point of the day straight away.  St Michaels/Foilmore were awarded frees in the second and third minutes of added time which they converted to leave the half time score Waterville 1-06 St. Michaels/Foilmore 0-07..
The second half started with St Michaels/Foilmore playing the more confident football. This looked like a new St.Michaels/Foilmore team in the second half. St. Michaels/Foilmore took the lead in the through Kieran Cronin. The margin was now two points and with a minute left JB O' Shea took a good opportunist point to reduce the deficit to one.
Waterville will be disappointed since they missed so much in the first half. But St.Michaels/Foilmore  played great football on the day and deserved their opportunity to play in the final.  The game itself was played in a true sportsman-like fashion and was well refereed by Peter Lyons of Laune Rangers. St.Michaels/Foilmore are now set to play rivals St.Mary's in the final and hope to finally get our hands on Jack Murphy
