St. Molaga’s N.S. Green School Project

St. Molaga’s N.S. Enter the Residential Property Market

St. Molaga’s N.S. entered the residential property market this week as the school grounds became a new housing estate for birds. Tony Fox, grandfather of Dean, Emma, Jane and Dylan, pupils in the senior school, spent his summer very productively making bird tables and bird nesting boxes for the school. The boxes and bird tables were erected by Seamus Browne, school caretaker, ably assisted by Bernard and Kathleen Fox. Pupils have reported that interest is high amongst the feathered population even though it is not expected that any new homeowners will take up occupancy until Spring.

This is only one of the many new developments in St. Molaga’s N.S. as the staff, pupils and parents work towards the Green Flag Award from An Taisce. Pupils are increasingly aware of the importance of protecting the environment and are continuing to reduce the amount of waste produced by the school by recycling paper and composting all organic material. They also collected old and used mobile phones this week which will be used to fund educational projects in India.

The Third classes plan to have a colourful spring flower display as they were busy planting spring bulbs which were donated by the Parents Associationu.

The Green school motto “Táimid glan agus táimid glas” is an active one which the pupils are consistently working towards. One of the latest initiatives is to have a Clean Classroom Competition which encourages each class to leave their classroom clean and tidy in the evening Winning classrooms are displayed on a League Table on the Green School Notice Board.

The school has many more projects planned as part of the Green Schools programme and will keep the wider school community up to date as the events come to pass during the school year. Further information is available on the school website.
