BASKETBALL AND HOCKEY
St. Patrick's Classical School Basketball teams have been competing in the Irish Basketball League for over ten years and in the Sprite Cup for two years.
Last year (1999) the school senior team, coached by Kevin Hourihane, won the Dublin Area League Final and was beaten in the Cup Final by St. Declans of Cabra. This team was captained by Eamonn Brady who is now playing for U.C.D./Marian. Eddie McMahon, John O'Callaghan, Alan Kiely, Alan Thompson, Richard Grimes and Jerry and John Brennan were also among the stars of the team.
This year's team hopes to retain last year's trophy and with players such as Alan Kiely, Alan Thompson, Richard Grimes, Peadar Callaghan, David McCormick, John Harrington, Thomas Geraghty and Andrew Yeates available, hopes are high.
The under-16 team captained by Derek Jackson also includes David Geraghty, Frank Harrington, Peter O'Mara Kane and Jamie Mc Dermott.
Hockey was first established in 'St.Pats' in 1995 and in its first year in competition the school won the Senior League.
The under-16 team is managed and coached by Ms.Maria O' Neill. It trains regularly on the all weather grit pitch. The team is acquiring improved skills all the time and many of its members now play at senior level for the local club.
