Hurling in St. Pats
![]() |
| There
was little hurling in St. Pats prior to 1983 and none in the old St. Pats
on Academy Street where "football was not allowed". Since 1983 the
school has had an active involvement in inter schools hurling competitions
initially at Juvenile and Junior level and recently in Senior competitions.
The early competitions took the form of one day blitzes which St. Pats Juvenile team won on one occasion. The underage coaching of O' Mahoneys and Cannistown National school helped the St. Pat's team. The junior and senior team of recent years have won North Leinster C titles. This team included a number of outstanding hurlers that won every honour at underage with their clubs particularly O' Mahoneys. Many of these players went on to represent Meath at inter county level right up to Senior level. These include James Bourke, David Connell, Andrew Snow, Richie Hogan, John Bourke, Donal Fitzsimons and Diarmuid Byrne. Donal Curtis the Meath All Ireland medal winner is also an accomplished hurler who played hurling at all levels for St. Pats. St. Pats won Junior and Senior North Leinster C titles in 1997 and recaptured the Senior title this year beating their arch rivals Killina Community School Tullamore in a thrilling final. The teachers involved in coaching and organizing school teams for the last 15 years are: Mr. Seamus McAteer, Mr. Aidan Jordan and recently Mr. James Bracken.
