With hope in our hearts...

The work of the Sue Ryder Care in Ireland commenced just a few years ago in 1981. We welcomed our first resident into Ballyroan in the Autumn of 1984. Ever since that day so many people have enjoyed peace, security and much fellowship and happiness.

The combined efforts of our voluntary committees in Ballyroan, Owning, Dalkey and Holycross and our shop committees have resulted in housing development in Laois, Kilkenny, Dublin and Tipperary all successfully operating and 'Sharing the Care'.

In those short years the Foundation has opened over eighteen charity shops each with its own dedicated voluntary workers - all these generous colleagues making a very worthwhile contribution to the work of the foundation. The Sue Ryder Shops serve not just an excellent way to fund raise, but are welcome retail outlets for many families on restricted incomes. I am most appreciative of all the goods and clothes - new, old and used - so kindly donated by our benefactors. I pray that God may shower His choicest blessings on our friends and repay their unselfish generosity one hundred fold.

The challenge we have set ourselves is the enhancement of life for people. Our community-based non-profit housing developments are designed especially to promote independent living in security, peace and comfort without the pressures but maintaining dignity which add years to life. I ask you to 'Share the Care' and thus add life to the years.

The progress the Sue Ryder Care has made in Ireland in a very Short time could not have been achieved without the trojan work of my National Council. To all our colleagues and friends, I extend my warmest thanks, appreciation and congratulations on your achievements.
