In 1988, the second house for the Sue Ryder Foundation in Owning, Co. Kilkenny.
There are 20 houses at Owning which cater for 28 people, together with a centre which provides for community facilities for the people who have made their home at this house.
Most of the people living here are from the area, have returned to the area after many years away or have close friends or relatives living nearby.
There is a great community spirit with many activities going on during the day for those who wish to join.
Sunday morning is a special time for the social get together in the sitting room before lunch and there is always an extra special lunch served on Sunday.
As with all Sue Ryder Homes, a four course lunch is served each day, thus ensuring that every one is well taken care of and only has to think about something light in the morning and whatever they might like in the evening.
The signature tune for the people living at the Sue Ryder House in Owning is "Happiness" which is sung at all gatherings with great gusto and great feeling. |
