“Would you like to start a workshop in Ireland? The Sue Ryder Foundation is starting a workshop in Abbeyleix which will supply the chain of Sue Ryder shops in Ireland and overseas. The Foundation is caring for the sick and disabled and derive its income from a number of sources such as second hand shops, donations and, as in this venture a manufacturing operation. We are looking for a person between 25 and 35 years old with experience in low to medium volume production of studio pottery. You should ideally have run your own workshop or have managed a workshop for a minimum of five years and be familiar with handthrowing, slipcasting and jigger/jollying. Experience in clay and glaze development is preferable as is a working knowledge of decoration techniques including transfer decorations. You will be in charge of just about everything, staffing, design of the new products, commissioning of new equipment and liaison with suppliers and endorsers of the new product. You will also have an input into marketing and product promotion.
