The American Civil WarIn 1861, the American Civil War began. More than 600,000 people died. It was the worst thing that happened in American History. It happened because the southern states of America South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina and Tennessee wanted slavery so the slaves could pick cotton off thorny bushes. The northern states of America did not agree with it, this is how the civil war began. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln became president and he ended slavery. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Ford’s theatre in Washington D.C by John Wilkes Booth. He was caught and prosecuted. Lincoln still remains as the most respected President in the history of the United States of America.
