Feis Cup
Final for Syddan
Rathkenny was
the venue for the decider between Syddan and walterstown last Sunday evening. Conditions
were damp and cold.
Walterstown
were without County mid-fielder Charles McCarthy amongst others, and considering
their loss in strength they really made a game of it. It was end to end stuff
for the majority of the match with syddan playing the better game in the first
half against the wind to come in at half time on level pegging. 0.04 a piece. The
game turned for the majority of the second half with walterstown playing the
better game and gaining a small lead. Syddan
struggled through much of the second half but a syddan team is never beaten
until the whistle blows. A last minute effort from Brian Dillon secured a draw
at Full time and extra time was to be played.
Final Score : Syddan
0.07 Waltrstown 0.07
After five
minutes into extra time, syddan were never going to be beaten, with a four
point lead and playing well this game was over.
Final Score (AET)
: Syddan 0.12 Waltrstown 0.08
A good
weekend for Syddan
Two good wins
for Syddan secured a junior C semi-final place and a quarter-final place
against Nobber in the Feis Cup.
The juniors overcame Oldcastle on Saturday evening in Carlanstown after playing
out a draw match in Kells the week before. Syddan were back to full strength
for the replay having had a number of players missing in the first game. A slow
starting game, with only one point in the first quarter saw the north Meath men
2-03 to no score up at half time. Oldcastle did play with much more bite in the
second half but were never really going to come out on top.
Final score: Syddan 2-11 Oldcastle 0-06
