PREFACE
A note of appreciation is due to the following: the paid up
members of the society whose continuing support ensures
that the society's finances are in good order; Celestine
Rafferty, Michael Demspey and Jarlath Glynn, of the
County Library, for their courtesy and support; Dr. Austin
O'Sullivan of Johnstown Castle for making Gerald
Fitzgerald's sketches of Taghmon available, Maria Colfer,
for her secretarial prowess and her organisation of the
Launch Sub-Committee; Marie Williams and Rita Curtis
for their painstaking proof reading; the Crandonnell Lodge
and Taghmon Community Centre, for placing a meeting
room at our disposal; Dan O'Flaherty for allowing us to use
the school meeting room; the committee for its dedication,
and lastly, the contributors whose analysis and perusal of
historical matters continues to ensure that our journal
appeals to all those who have an interest in history and
culture.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to appeal
for old photographs of people, events, houses etc. in the
Parish of Taghmon. Photos can be given to any member of
the committee and will be considered for inclusion in the
annual Taghmon Calendar. The photos will be treated with
care and returned to the owners in due course.
