Taghmon/Camross GAA
Notes
First Underage
Hurling Title
It was an historic weekend for the club when our juvenile hurling team overcame Davidstown-Courtnacuddy by a score of 1-6 to 1-2 to secure the Roinn 2 county championship in an entertaining contest in Blackwater on Sunday afternoon. This was the first county underage hurling title won in the club’s history, and hopefully in a few years we can build on this success and challenge for adult honours. At the post-match meal for the team held at Mooney’s in Wexford, Darren Colfer was presented with the man of the match trophy generously donated by Paddy and Fintan Doyle. Fr. David Murphy and Bord na nÓg chairman, John Waters, congratulated the team on their great victory.
Under 10 Football
The under 10 football team qualified for the final of the Sarsfields Tournament last week by defeating a strong Sarsfields team in the quarter-final and Glynn/Barntown in the semifinal. It is the first time in the competition history that a team from Taghmon/Camross qualified for the final. The final will be played on Sunday morning (December 13) at Parc Charman at 11:15 against Bannow/Ballymitty.
AGM
The club AGM was held at the Old Hall in Caroreigh after a mass celebrated for former players on Friday evening. At the start of the meeting there was a minute silence for Dan Nolan who died last week. Eoin O’Gorman, outgoing joint treasurer, presented detailed accounts in his report. The Lotto, county development draw, and race night were the main sources of funds. A considerable amount of money is still needed to pay back the loans used to fund the club development and club members were urged to redouble their efforts in the coming year. The pitch development is complete and the expanded community centre and dressing rooms are scheduled for Official Opening at Easter.
Father David Murphy took the chair for the election of the club committee. Denis Nolan was reelected chairman, Aindreas Ryan was returned as secretary, and Eoin O’Gorman and Ann Hannon as joint treasurers. Ollie Somers was elected vice-chairman, Jetta Laffan as assistant secretary, Ulick Stafford as PRO, Paddy Nolan as Park Development Committee Chairman, Ger Kelly as Building Committee Chairman, Ann Carroll as Bingo Organiser, Mai O’Sullivan as Lotto Organiser, Noel O’Gorman as county board representative, and Seán McGee as New Ross district representative. George O’Connor, Billy Nolan, Fr. David Murphy, and Tom Carty were also elected to the management committee. Bord na nÓg, Ladies’ Football, and Camogie representatives will be nominated by their AGM’s.
After the committee election was complete Denis Nolan returned to the chair for the election of team managers. First it was decided to continue the pattern of the last few years electing managers and allowing them to pick their own selectors. The following were elected - Tom Carty, senior football; Paul Hannon, junior football; Jim Doyle U-21 football; John Waters, intermediate hurling; Jim Morrissey, junior hurling; Denis Banville/Paddy Nolan, U-21 hurling. Finally, membership dues for the coming year was set at family - £30 (including children under 18); Adult - £20; student - £5.
